Privacy Policy

Cedar Woods Properties Limited has developed a privacy policy to ensure compliance with privacy provisions in the Privacy Act 1988, which came into effect in December 2001. The Privacy Act embodies the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) which establish a nationally consistent approach to the handling of personal information in the private sector.

The following is the Company’s policy based on the NPP’s:

•    If it is lawful and practicable to do so, people will be given the option of interacting anonymously with us
•    Personal information will only be collected that is necessary for our functions or activities
•    We will use fair and lawful ways to collect personal information
•    We will collect personal information directly from an individual if it is reasonable and practicable to do so
•    We will get consent to collect sensitive information unless specified exemptions apply, however it is not anticipated that sensitive information will be required
•    At the time of collecting personal information or as soon as practicable afterwards, we will take reasonable steps to make an individual aware of:
    Why we are collecting information about them
    Who else we might give it to
•    We will take reasonable steps to ensure the individual is aware of this information even if we have collected it from someone else
•    We will only use or disclose personal information for the primary purpose of collection unless one of the exceptions in NPP 2.1 applies (for example, for a related secondary purpose within the individual's reasonable expectations, we have consent or there are specified law enforcement or public health and public safety circumstances)
•    We will take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we collect, use or disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date. This may require us to correct the information
•    We will take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure
•    We will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information if we no longer need it for any purpose for which we may use or disclose the information
•    We have developed a short document that sets out clearly expressed policies on the way we manage personal information and we make it available to anyone who asks for it.
•    If an individual asks, we will take reasonable steps to let them know, generally, how we collect, use and disclose that information
•    If an individual asks, we will give access to the personal information we hold about them unless particular circumstances apply that allow us to limit the extent to which we give access - these include emergency situations, specified business imperatives and law enforcement or other public interests
•    In each direct marketing communication with the individual, we will draw to the individual's attention that he or she may express a wish not to receive any further direct marketing communications
•    In each written direct marketing communication by the organisation with the individual the communication sets out the Company’s business address and telephone number and, if the communication with the individual is made by fax, telex or other electronic means, a number or address at which the Company can be directly contacted electronically.
